Exclusive again:

Just got back about an hour ago Medallion hunting. I brought a hoe, and did I get a workout for about 90 minutes before it got dark. I just about froze my keister and fingers off, actually it was toes and fingers...just wanted to say keister...

I ended up talking to others looking for the Medallion. Was told that finally there were a few folks this morn looking in the same place I was parked...Cameron Park again. Someone who knows the person behind some of the Medallion decisions says he was told they were not likely to hide it on the ground, because snow was in the forecast before the Hunt began. Take that info with a grain of salt. If it is true, that limits even more so, where the Medallion could be in Cameron Park.

OH, I still could be wrong and it is somewhere other than Cameron, but I will stick my neck out and say I do believe it has been found in that park, or is buried under ice or snow in that same park. Clue 8 should be revealed in about 5 hours, so I will again be open minded if that clue points in another direction other than Cameron Park...

If you are reading this, you have a distinct advantage over most other Medallion Hunters.

P.S. if I had someone to hold a flashlight while I looked for the Medallion, I'd be out there right after midnight finishing my hoeing at key spots in Cameron Park. I may lose a toe and a finger or 2, but it's long overdue I find one of these Medallions...I'm sure some of you have the same attitude. Keep on a trucking...

$500 Winter Rec-Fest 2014 Medallion Hunt

Clue #1:
Winter Rec Fest 2014!
Escape the house when the clues click.
The flake is hidden for your search...
Just beyond a William Holden Flick..

Clue #2:
Places to park, but rules to obey
And speed limits do apply.
Doors galore in your view
And Santa's exit route is just nearby.

Clue #3:
Don't look for the flake south of Jackson,
But find a reminder of where flowers grow.
Stand by the big river and reverse Horace Greeley.
You're cold where the waters flow.

Clue #4:
Think safety and hunt on city property
Although private land is close at hand.
The initials P.C. can offer a hint.
And you might hear a wooden shoe band.

Clue #5:
A place to shoot hoops around the bend,
So don't bother with any lofty place.
Find the white triangle and count to ten.
When the clues link, you'll have a happy face.

Clue #6:
One utensil is plain to see.
Find it and your quest gets a lift.
Stop signs and hydrants can be found.
You can vent, but don't get miffed.

Clue #7:
Hours for something are clearly posted,
But you can track, I presume, by day or night.
You'll see a fence that goes nowhere.
Plus, a religious presence in sight.

Clue #8:
A sporting color centered between red and white.
Then make a connection for par.
A round window way up high
And family street names not very far.

My take on Clue #8: well well well, time to rethink where the elusive flake is hidden. Are we having fun yet? Bazinga, as Sheldon of the Big Bang Theory would say when he is being sarcastic...

Exclusive: I didn't call the Parks and Rec Dept to see if the Medallion was found and the finder contacted them today, but no other media outlet is reporting it being found yet. Doesn't mean it wasn't found, but let's assume it's still open season in the current Winter Rec Fest...

Been pondering clue 8 all day and I can't make it point to Cameron Park, but that doesn't mean it's not there. Clue 9 should shed mucho light on this mystery. I have been wishing for one of these Medallion Hunts to go all the way, to clue 10, and I just may get my wish.

I have reread all the clues out to date and although none of them leads me to a likely site where the Medallion is hidden, I have another possible place to hunt: The Forest Hills Golf Course and the public areas around the course. Several years ago the Medallion was hidden in a tree near the entrance to the course. I remember it well. I was one of many who were in that tree, but didn't see it. It was up about eye level. My mistake was not taking more time in that tree, even though I saw a couple look there before I did. Patience young man, patience has been my motto on these hunts from that day on.

Some of the clues don't seem to point to my latest suggestion, but here are some that do: clue 1, line 1, 'clues click', click is the sound a golf ball makes when struck well... clue 2, lines 1, 2, 3 could point to that course...clue 3, line 2, 'flowers', there used to be a Greenhouse near the course, not sure it's still there...I believe it was called La Crosse Floral...my mom used to go there all the time for plants and flowers to grow inside and outside the house...clue 4, line 1, 'think safety', there is a railroad track that goes through part of the course, and of course, in addition it is always wise to be heads up for stray balls hit your way...clue 4, line 3, 'initials P.C.', could stand for Public Course, since it used to be a private country club years ago...clue 5, line 3, 'white triangle', there is at least one in the parking lot...clue 5, line 3 also, 'count to ten', is a good strategy when bad luck strikes on the gold course...clue 5, line 4, 'link', golf courses are also called links, especially in England...clue 7, line 2, 'track', referring to those before mentioned railroad tracks...clue 8, line 2, 'par', a golf term for getting your ball in the hole in the regular number of strokes on that hole, set by the owner of the course...clue 8, line 4, 'family street names', well this is a strange line...my only guess is it is talking about similar names for a couple streets in the area named after early settlers in the area, in this case, Losey Blvd, and Losey Court...

Well, I'm not pleased with how many clues don't seem to obviously point to the Golf Course mentioned, but it's the best my old Pollack brain can come up with so far.

Clue #9:
Think of a city other than La Crosse
And a famous baby born in 2013.
Clint's detective is making it easy.
Now find the right tree at the scene.

My take on Clue #9: wow, is this clue confusing. Let's see now. It appears they are referring in line 3 to Clint Eastwood's Dirty Harry movies and Detective Harry Callahan. Line 1 city? No clue. Line 2 should be the 1st born George, born to William and Catherine of Cambridge England. Line 4, tree should be Medallion hiding place. Now is this tree in Cameron Park, Forest Hills Golf Course, somewhere on Cameron Ave, or somewhere else?

Recommendation: I honestly can't advise anyone to go out in the bitter cold today, to an uncertain hiding place with a mysterious tree and elusive Medallion. I sure won't be out hunting today, unless I'm able to put all the clues together, 1 through 9, and be pretty certain where to look.

Warning: clue 10 will likely give away the exact spot where the Flake is hidden, so it behooves us hunters to find it today, or be the 1st one out right after midnight Friday morn, combined with a little luck.

My latest take on Clue #9: OK, a brain storm just hit me...may need to sit out the next Hunt till my concussion goes away.

I can't, as of right now, make all the clues come together in one logical conclusion, but...here are my thoughts, taking into account clues 8 and 9, and a couple other clues too.

clue 4, line 3, 'initials P.C.', Prince Charles.

clue 8, line 1, 'sporting color centered between red and white', green is a possibility here...

clue 8, line 4, 'family street names not very far', Several British Royal family names are also street names, such as: St Charles, St James, George, Andrew, to name 4...And the House of Windsor is also a street name, Windsor St...a coincidence? Maybe...

clue 9, line 1, 'think of a city other than La Crosse', well, how about St Cloud St and St Paul St ?

clue 9, line 2, 'famous baby born in 2013', George to Prince William and wife...

clue 9, line 3, Harry, of course is Clint Eastwood's character in 5 movies...

New recommendation: I plan on going to both Goose Green Park and Red Cloud Park, sometime today, searching ALL trees, with Goose Green and Andrew Field being my priorities.

LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW - TV ch: 19)

The Winter Rec-Fest Medallion has been found
It took nine clues for someone to track down the Winter Rec-Fest Medallion this year.

Jared Flick of the La Crosse Parks and Rec. Department said that the medallion was found Thursday morning around 10:30 a.m. at the Harry J. Olson Senior Center on the north side of town.

Jonathon Craig of La Crosse found the medallion secured to a tree to the east of the parking lot.

Final thoughts and a Reminder!

Postby Dave » Tue Jan 28, 2014 11:51 pm

Final Thoughts:

After the new official site got the glitches resolved, I must commend the clue writer. Very hard hunt. Clues were vague enough that the Medallion remained hidden until clue 9. Looking back on it, the key clue was the one mentioning a white triangle and counting to ten. I had never been to the location before so didn't know there was a white triangle on the building.

A Reminder

All you Medallion Hunting lovers, remember that the next $500 Medallion Hunt will be in mid September of 2014, the Oktoberfest one.....so come back to the best place in town to discuss the clues...

OH, if there is a Freedom Fest Medallion Hunt and/or a River Fest one, this summer...and I have time, I will be posting all the clues for those 2 hunts and scrambling to interpret the clues right here at The Big Mouth Forum.
